Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability, Springhill Group took part in a mangrove planting initiative held in Sedari Village, Karawang, West Java. The event, titled “Mangroves for the Nation”, was a collaborative effort between the ITB Alumni Class of 1980 and Perum Perhutani KPH Purwakarta, aiming to plant and nurture 4,500 mangrove trees.
The event began with the singing of Indonesia’s national anthem, followed by a symbolic mangrove planting ceremony involving representatives from sponsoring institutions and ITB alumni. AH Marhendra, Chairman of the organizing committee and also Chief Operating Officer of Springhill Group, expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, alumni, and organizing team for their dedication and hard work in making the event a success.
Marhendra is no stranger to mangrove planting initiatives. Since 2019, he has been actively involved in various planting projects — including ones held by his personal foundation and even a collaboration with musician Iwan Fals — bringing his personal total to over 20,000 mangrove trees planted. Of those, approximately 6,500 trees were planted in partnership with the ITB 1980 alumni.
He emphasized the importance of long-term care in such efforts. “Mangrove trees can live up to a hundred years, but about 50% of newly planted trees may die due to pests or environmental factors. That’s why we must implement a replanting system, replacing dead or damaged trees. It’s not just about planting — it’s about planting and nurturing,” he explained.
In addition to the environmental focus, the event also included the symbolic handover of a housing assistance package to a local resident, further demonstrating the initiative’s social impact.
Muh. Akramullah, Promotion Department Head of Springhill Group, added that this participation reflects the company’s commitment to supporting carbon emission reduction and protecting coastal biodiversity. “This initiative reflects the spirit of collaboration and mutual responsibility in preserving Indonesia’s natural environment,” he said.
As the founder of the Green Building Council Indonesia, Springhill Group consistently applies environmentally friendly development principles to all of its projects. Currently, the group is developing sustainable and premium-quality properties in Kemayoran, Cisauk Serpong, Rumpin Bogor, Palembang, Lampung, and Pekanbaru.
